Whenever a woman suffers some sort of setback when she wants to have a child, she often she gives up on the notion. It used to be that women who underwent this kind of treatment would often end up with multiple babies taking hold. Naturally, this is not a good position for the babies or the mother alike and very often they would have to terminate individual embryos which would make room for the others. However, the trauma surrounding this event often left the mother bereft since she did not know how to choose the ones to be given the chance of life.
These days, however, because of improved techniques, it is more usual for the woman to be implanted with just one or two embryos so that they would have a chance to grow. Any embryos left over are deep frozen to preserve them just in case the pregnancy aborts before full term. If she should lose these babies then there will be several more waiting to be implanted without her having to go through all the rigors of having hormone injections a second or third time.
