There are moments in life that take your breath away. Nobody can capture in words the happiness felt on a wedding day or the joy experienced when your pregnancy test returns positive. Such joyful occasions are happy, uniting times in the life and relationship of the couple. Regrettably, there are also couples battling who wonder if they will ever experience such joys. In the case of awaiting parenthood, there is a growing number of couples who are finding it difficult to have a child.

Most couples who are having problems with fertility often turn to the expensive option of seeing fertility doctors. Even though it is tempting to seek a solution from a doctor, you have the option of pursuing natural remedies to improve your chances of conceiving a child. While both methods require time, following the natural approach means you will not have to deal with negative side effects or undergo expensive procedures that might go against your personal ethics.

Your body’s performance is affected by physical and psychological factors. Ensuring good health in both partners is essential to improve your chances of conception. Obese people as well as underweight people often suffer from infertility, because both stress the body, causing it to shut down its reproductive processes. Similarly, high consumption of alcohol and nicotine give rise to fertility problems. Both of these factors can lower the number of sperm a man produces. They also make the female’s body more inhospitable to the sperm. Another contributor to infertility is stress.

It may seem difficult to make these changes, but it is to your benefit to live a healthier life. Work out more, eat better, and drink more water. Staying healthy is not just important for the purpose of conception, but also for the period of pregnancy and the years before and after birth.

As a side observation, once you do conceive, make sure you are not smoking when you are pregnant. Not only can it be detremental for your health, but could result in birth defects and even worse, still births

Conception is very math-oriented. Find out when ovulation is occurring. There is a 12 to 24 hour period when the female egg can be fertilized. The male sperm are active for two or three days after entering the woman’s body. This presents a narrow window of time for conception to occur. By paying close attention to her menstrual cycle, a woman can be sure to have intercourse just prior to ovulation. Some experts advise intercourse every other day to allow time for a larger sperm buildup, increasing the chance of a sperm reaching the egg.

To increase the odds, a couple can use gravity in their favor by elevating the woman’s pelvis on a pillow. After intercourse, the woman should lie down for a quarter hour or so, giving the sperm an easier path to the egg.

Low vitamin and mineral levels in the body negatively impact the immune system, thus decreasing the body’s ability to redirect vital resources toward conception. A boost in energy and increase in mucus comes from Vitamin C. Evening primrose is touted as having similar benefits. An abundant and less acidic supply of mucus gives the sperm a more hospitable environment and an easier swim to the egg.

Vitamins E and B12 are also important for both of you. A woman’s body still needs iron from fish, red, and white meats. Leafy greens and nuts will supply folic acid, which is beneficial for fertility as well as ensuring healthy development in the baby. Because it is important and not easily absorbed, you can also take it in supplement form.

By taking natural steps designed to improve your chances of getting pregnant, you might see a positive pregnancy test result before you know it. Even though these guidelines are important for improving fertility, they should not remove the fun and spontaneity from life. Starting a new life should be a process bathed in love, tenderness, and true intimacy.
