First Two Weeks of Pregnancy

A huge congratulations to you if you’re now starting your journey into pregnancy. Being pregnant is nothing short of spectacular and miraculous, whether it’s planned or not, wanted or not. Many pregnant women don’t even know that they are pregnant until they’re already into their second week of pregnancy. You can only really know that you’re a day pregnant
if you’re trying har and doing pregnancy tests everyday. But otherwise, your first week of pregnancy will just pass by without you noticing.

The first day of the first week of your pregnancy is the just about the last day of your menstrual cycle. For the first fortnight of pregnancy, your baby is considered zygote or a fertilized ovum (an ovum that has been fertilized by a spermatozoon). The first two weeks of pregnancy is almost all about you and your feelings towards the pregnancy. A roller-coaster ride of emotions is usually normal during these weeks. You’re excited and afraid. You’re over the moon and panicked. Everything really depends if you want to be pregnant during this time, planning to be or not. If you’re not planning to get pregnant, don’t freak out because half of all pregnancies started out unplanned.

During Early Pregnancy

The things you need to focus on during this week are the following:

  • Your decision about the baby
  • How to break the news to your partner and loved ones
  • What you need to do to take care of yourself and your unborn
    child

What’s going on with your body?

Symptoms of early pregnancy are usually unnoticed because most of the time newly pregnant women think that they’re not pregnant, instead they’re going to have their periods. During the early stages you’ll feel more tired and emotional. Your breasts will a bit tender and you urinate a lot. These symptoms are quite similar to having pre-menstrual syndrome so if you’re really not planning to get pregnant, you’ll immediately dismiss what you’re feeling as PMS.

As early as the day you learned that you are pregnant, you need to schedule your first prenatal appointment. Find an OBGYN that you can trust. And then talk to him/her about pre-natal vitamins that you can take that will not be harmful for the baby. Also consult about your exercise routines and diet. If you’re into smoking and love drinking alcohol then now is the time to quit. Alcohol, drugs and any tobacco products can cause birth defects and health problems such as weak respiratory system. As for your baby-daddy, the earlier you tell him that you’re pregnant, the better. This way you won’t be alone in experiencing the joys and fears of pregnancy.

Planned or Unplanned Pregnancy

Being pregnant and having a child are life-altering events. If you’re planning to have one or you embrace it even when it’s unplanned, then really, good for you. If this is an unplanned pregnancy (e.g. teen pregnancy) then you need to talk to someone that can help you sort your feelings, announce your impending birth and decide what to do with your situation.
